Arts as Ecological Practice: Analyzing and Conceptualizing Exhibitions in Ecological Thought

It is no coincidence that many artists turn to ecology, sustainability and climate justice in their practice in light of the critical state of the global climate crisis. Art institutions are also responding to these issues. But what can be done beyond raising awareness? How can the art field and its exhibitionary formats incorporate this topic in relevant ways that go beyond aesthetic representation? This course explored how ecological thinking in more-than-human relations can be integrated into artistic and exhibitionary practices, emphasizing interdependence and self-critical reflection of one’s own position on a planetary scale.

We visited SAE Greenhouse ART-LAB, Paloma Ayala & tracy september from Les Complices, had a tour by Olena Iegorova in the exhibition „Hans Ulrich Obrist Archive Gustav Metzger, at Luma Westbau and an input by Nora Hauswirth (Tera Kuno).
