Dr. Ronald Kolb (PhD) is an independent curator, transdisciplinary researcher and lecturer, he focuses on curatorial practices at the intersection of art, knowledge, ecology and society. A central feature of his work is the choreography of exhibitions and teaching formats as participatory spaces of knowledge.
He was the Artistic Director of M.1 at the Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung, Hohenlockstedt, for the 2025/26 cycle.
He was co-head of the Postgraduate programme in Curating (2017–2024) at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and teaches curatorial practice in continuing education at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
He was one of the editor-in-chief of the web journal On-Curating.org until 2025.
In 2024, he completed his doctorate at the University of Reading with a dissertation entitled Curating as Governmental Practices. Post-exhibitionary Practices under Translocal Conditions in Governmental Constellations.
Through exhibitions, publications, lectures, workshops, and teaching programmes, Ronald Kolb has collaborated with museums, art institutions, and universities internationally, including Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), Merz Akademie Stuttgart, Tai Kwun Contemporary (Hong Kong), Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst (Zurich), ARKO Art Center (Seoul), Kunsthaus Zürich, documenta fifteen (Kassel), TBA21–Academy, and C3A Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía (Córdoba).
This international practice is reflected in events and exhibitions he has organised or co-organised, including Learning for Life, a festival and workshop programme at Merz Akademie Stuttgart (2018); Situated Knowledges—Art and Curating on the Move, a digital event developed with Tai Kwun Contemporary and the Migros Museum (2021); the summer school Commoning Curatorial and Artistic Education for documenta fifteen (2022); the study trip Post-/Exhibitionary Practices: Art and Curating in Expanded Ecological Thought; and the international exhibition project Into the Rhythm, developed in collaboration with ARKO Art Center and also presented as part of the Gwangju Biennale Pavilion 2024.
From 2025 to 2026, he curated Art as Ecological Practice at the Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung/M.1: a growing exhibitionary project structured around four seasonal assemblies and encompassing artistic performances, workshops, walkshops, shared meals, and other participatory activities.
