Conceptual participation and organisation of an interdisciplinary programme revisiting the experimental pedagogies and collaborative practices of Black Mountain College

Revisiting Black Mountain examined the renewed relevance of Black Mountain College for contemporary art and design education, focusing on interdisciplinarity, experimentation, self-organisation, collaborative learning, democracy, and social responsibility. Rather than proposing a direct historical continuity, the project approached the college as a site of projection and a productive point of departure for reconsidering how art and design are taught today. Developed through internal open calls open to all departments at the Zurich University of Arts, it brought together exhibitions, workshops, installations, performances, and interventions at the Toni-Areal from 19 April to 3 June 2018. A related exhibition, developed with the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, explored collaboration and communal life among the college’s teachers and students.
