The lecture Infrastructures of a Transformative Exhibition Practice, presented at Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel, introduced the year-long, process-based exhibition project Art as Ecological Practice—Situated Practices and Translocal Encounters between Art, Science, and Everyday Life (2025–26), realised at M.1 of the Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung in Hohenlockstedt. Beginning with the question of how contemporary artistic practices and exhibition formats can contribute to sustainable ways of living, the project moved beyond representations of “nature” and general awareness of the climate crisis to address the material and infrastructural conditions of cultural production.
Collaborative formats and participatory situations were conceived as contact zones connecting artistic practice, local knowledge, scientific research, and everyday experience. Drawing on Donna Haraway’s concept of NatureCulture and Anna Tsing’s thinking on coordination and assemblages, ecology was understood as a processual network in which different actors, materials, and forms of knowledge enter into relationships.
The lecture proposed an expanded understanding of exhibition-making: not simply as the presentation of objects, but as an artistic, spatial, and publicly oriented practice capable of coordinating processes of social transformation. It foregrounded the governmental dimension of art by asking how artistic practices can make visible—and actively reshape—forms of coexistence, care, and ecological coordination.
