The lecture Curating as Governmental Practices: Post-Exhibitionary Practices under Translocal Conditions in Governmental Constellations, presented at Taipei National University of the Arts on 23 October 2024 at the invitation of Jau-Lan Guo, introduced the methodological framework of Ronald Kolb’s doctoral research. It examined contemporary curatorial discourse, from new museology and its participatory “turns” to the translocal entanglements of today’s exhibitionary complex.
Drawing on Michel Foucault’s concept of governmentality and Donna Haraway’s situated knowledges, the lecture proposed moving beyond universalising forms of representation towards situated, networked, and self-critical knowledge production. The “post-exhibitionary” was introduced as an active social and political contact zone extending beyond the autonomous art field. Examples from documenta fifteen, Kolb’s curatorial practice, and other contemporary projects illustrated the framework.
