The conference examined connections between exhibiting, archiving, and presenting performance as a translocal practice. Contributors included Jules Pelta Feldman, Roland Wetzel, Donatella Bernardi, Gisela Hochuli, Ronald Kolb, Dominique Grisard, Dorothea Schürch, Ute Holl, Pascale Grau, Dorothee Daphi, Monica Klingler, Kadiatou Diallo, Dorothea Rust, Linda Luv, Tabea Lurk, Isabella Krayer, Caroline Arni, Antonia Röllin, Nicole Müller, and Michael Hiltbrunner.
The second day included contributions by Marie-Eve Knoerle, Mary Paterson, Marcel Schwald, Mathias Balzer, Ursula Badrutt, Margarit von Büren, Benjamin Sunarjo, Noah Stolz, Claire de Ribaupierre Furlan, Esther Maria Jungo, and a keynote conversation between Carola Dertnig and Barbara Clausen. The programme was introduced by Lena Eriksson, Sabine Gebhardt Fink, Heinrich Lüber, Muda Mathis, Chris Regn, Andrea Saemann, and Margarit von Büren.
The lecture presented translocality as a condition extending beyond migration and diaspora to encompass postcolonial and decolonial processes, embodied relationships, and our distanced connections to globalised fields of knowledge. It approached exhibition-making as a form of governmental mapping through which networked knowledge, social relations, and different positions are organised and made public.
Drawing on Donna Haraway’s concept of situated knowledges, the lecture argued for moving beyond universalising forms of knowledge production towards more nuanced, positional, and networked practices. Exhibitionary practices were consequently understood as participatory performances and social contact zones that enable negotiation across asymmetrical relationships, extending beyond the traditional boundaries of the autonomous art field.
