Organisation and teaching of the Baustein
Kunst in Kontaktzonen
for the Winter School 2024, Centre for Continuing Education, ZHdK, Zurich, Switzerland.
8–10 February 2024

Contemporary art is often described as aloof. Yet, alongside the usual educational programmes, there are exciting exhibition practices that take a fundamentally more inclusive approach to participation and are realised through transdisciplinary, collaborative and community-based processes. In these cultural projects, the focus is not on the artworks themselves, but on the exchange that needs to be shaped and curated. Here, art opens up a dialogical format that facilitates a horizontal learning environment. The discourse on contemporary art helps to develop aesthetic competence and critical thinking.

The course focuses on learning to understand and adopt these practices. It includes an introduction to the context and insights into various ‘neighbourhood exhibitions’. On the field trip day, we engaged in a workshop with Maya Minder, and visited Museum Riethberg, Martina Huber (AIA).
