Art as Ecological Practice was a one-year, process-oriented exhibition project at the Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung in rural northern Germany. It examined how contemporary art and expanded exhibitionary formats can contribute to sustainable ways of living and translate evidence-based research into shared knowledge. Moving beyond symbolic representations of nature, the project brought ecological thought into practice through collaborations among artists, scientists, local experts, producers, and communities.

Rather than forming a static exhibition, the project developed through new artworks, situated research, workshops, performances, screenings, cooking events, lectures, and informal encounters. Four seasonal gatherings structured this evolving process: the Spring Assembly, Situating Local Conditions & Contextualizing Culture; the Summer Assembly, Walking, Talking, Working—Queering Landscape & Liquid Ecology; the Fall Assembly, Collecting, Preserving, Enjoying—The Power of Abundance & the Art of Sharing; and the Winter Assembly, Scarcity as Delight & Regenerative Future. Together, they transformed M.1 into a contact zone for exchanging local and translocal knowledge, critically examining ecological interdependencies, and testing collective forms of artistic and everyday practice.
