The lecture From Universal Canon to Situated Knowledges in the Exhibitionary Complex: A Methodological Journey to Contemporary Forms of Knowledge Production Called Exhibitions was presented at the MA in Critical and Curatorial Studies of Contemporary Art at the National Taipei University of Education on 24 October 2024, at the invitation of professor Pei-Yi Lu.
The lecture traced changing exhibition formats and their disciplinary, governmental, and participatory modes of knowledge production. It asked where and by whom exhibitionary knowledge is produced, how it is presented, which rules and claims to objectivity shape it, and whose interests it serves. Advocating a shift from universalising narratives towards situated, networked, and self-critical forms of knowledge, the lecture introduced the “post-exhibitionary complex” as a transversal contact zone for social negotiation. The framework was illustrated through COMPOST—The Open Bin, documenta fifteen, and Small Projects for Coming Communities.
